# Gateway Academy > Gateway Academy is Arizona's non-profit private day school for bright, neurodivergent (twice-exceptional) students, grades 6–12. Founded in 2005, it sits on 8.5 acres at the base of the Phoenix Mountain Preserve in Phoenix, Arizona. Arizona ESA funding can make Gateway tuition $0 for qualifying students. ## About Gateway Academy serves students who are simultaneously academically bright and neurodivergent — a combination ("twice-exceptional," or 2e) that traditional schools routinely miss. The model is strength-first: develop the talent and support the difference at the same time. Small classes with student-teacher ratios of 12:1 in middle school and 14:1 in high school, subject expert teachers, and integrated support (counseling, social skills, executive functioning, pragmatic language, and sensory strategies) woven into every day. - Founded: 2005 by O. Robin Sweet (Founder & CEO) - Location: 3939 E. Shea Blvd., Phoenix, AZ 85028 - Phone: (480) 998-1071 - Grades: 6–12 · ~140 students · Student-teacher ratio: 12:1 middle school, 14:1 high school - Accreditation: WASC, COGNIA; AZ DOE approved; NASET School of Excellence; active National Honor Society chapter - Team and community identity: Warriors · Motto: Seeking Balance ## Cost & ESA - Gateway students qualify for Arizona ESA funding through an autism diagnosis or a current IEP, which can reduce their Gateway tuition to $0. - ESA award amounts vary by school district and diagnosis. It takes 30 days from the date of application to receive your qualifying Award Letter. Gateway has rolling admissions year-round. ## What makes Gateway different - 100% of students earn college credit in grades 8–12 through ASU Accelerate (the Arizona average is about 25%). - Three high school pathways: Traditional Diploma (College Prep), Dual Enrollment (ASU Accelerate), and Career & Technical Education (Penn Foster). - Therapy dogs Apollo & Athena on campus every day; equine therapy through Hunkapi Farms. - Minecraft Education and a tech-forward STEM program (VR lab, 3D printers, drones). - 48 field trips happen each semester across all of Gateway's classes combined. An individual student goes on the trips tied to their own classes, not all 48. ## Key pages - [Home](https://gatewayacademy.us/index.html): Overview of Gateway Academy. - [About](https://gatewayacademy.us/about.html): Story, campus, accreditation, and what twice-exceptional means. - [Academics](https://gatewayacademy.us/academics.html): Curriculum and teaching approach for 2e learners. - [Middle School](https://gatewayacademy.us/middle-school.html): Grades 6–8 program. - [High School](https://gatewayacademy.us/high-school.html): The three pathways — Traditional Diploma, Dual Enrollment, and CTE. - [Early College](https://gatewayacademy.us/early-college.html): ASU Accelerate dual-enrollment / college credit. - [Tuition & ESA](https://gatewayacademy.us/tuition.html): How ESA covers tuition, step by step. - [Who Gateway Serves](https://gatewayacademy.us/autism-and-2e.html): Whether Gateway fits a bright student who also needs support — twice-exceptional explained, eligibility, and the support built into each day. - [Admissions](https://gatewayacademy.us/admissions.html): How to apply; rolling admissions. - [Student Life](https://gatewayacademy.us/student-life.html): Therapy animals, clubs, athletics, community. - [Athletics](https://gatewayacademy.us/athletics.html): Warriors sports — seven programs (swimming, soccer, basketball, bowling, pickleball, powerlifting, e-sports), season windows, and the required athletics forms. - [Alumni & Outcomes](https://gatewayacademy.us/alumni.html): Where graduates go next. - [Wall of Love](https://gatewayacademy.us/wall-of-love.html): Verbatim notes from parents, students, grandparents, and teachers — what families say about Gateway. - [Our Team](https://gatewayacademy.us/team.html): Faculty and staff. - [News & Events](https://gatewayacademy.us/news.html): In the news and upcoming events. - [Resources & Menus](https://gatewayacademy.us/resources.html): Family resources, forms, supply lists, and the monthly lunch menu. - [Gateway Parent Organization](https://gatewayacademy.us/parent-organization.html): The GPO, Gateway's parent volunteer group: welcoming new families, celebrating faculty and staff, and a great annual fundraiser.
